Why God?

Life is filled with all sorts of joys and times of happiness. There are times in our lives when we smile so big our cheeks hurt. Like when we hold our child in our arms. I remember when the doctor first handed me my daughter, Hallie Grace. She was so beautiful. She looked like all babies do when they first arrive covered with the protective layer around her, but I saw past all that. She couldn’t even open her eyes, but she was looking at me. With all the voices in the room, she was looking at me, her father. I leaned down and touched her tiny little hand and told her I loved her.

But there are other moments in life. Moments full of pain and suffering, heart-ache and even despair. There are moments of missed opportunities, unmet expectations, the loss of a job, or times of confusion or times of incredible pain and anger, such as the death of a loved one. Life can be very hard and we wonder why, why God? We look for answers—We need to look for God.

What we hope you can take with you this morning is that your comfort can be found in God’s loving and welcoming arms. Comfort won’t be found in an explanation or even a religious belief; it can only come from the Love of God Himself.

Maybe you’re here this morning in a painful season of life—we want you to know that although we may not have the answers we have the hope and comfort of Jesus Christ. As Christians we have the promise of God, “Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you”, and “draw near to me and I will draw near to you”. Come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest.

When my daughter arrived, her eyes were covered and she couldn’t see can’t see anything for a while, but she could hear my voice, and she kept looking to me, and listening to my voice, the voice of her father, saying, Hallie, its your daddy. I love you. I am here with you. When you’re in a time of pain or suffering, and you can’t see through the clouds of despair. God is with you. He wants you to know that he loves you and He will never leave.
